Girl Scouts Day at the Capitol

by Sarah

Girl Scouts Day Featured Image

One thing I love about Girl Scouts is the simple fact that they have a TON Of great programs that you can do either as a troop or by yourself. The Girl Scouts Day at the Capitol is a great example of that -- and was a ton of fun! Girl Scouts Day at the Capitol Show your Girl Scout pride and interest in citizenship as we spend a day at the Capitol. Meet women from our Legislature and hear why they chose this path- of representing us! When you are NOT with your troop - you tend to meet other great girls and create new friendships! That happened to me - I met and made friends with a gal who has the same goofy humor as I do. As part of Girl Scouts Day, we got a behind-the-scenes tour of the beautiful building and even met a few representatives, so we actually met all the qualifications to earn the Inside Government Patch! Here we are deciding how we plan to vote for the proposed motion.. It was a fun day and I really learned a lot about our local government - perfect … [Read more...]

Curious Chef – Get Your Kids Cooking at Full STEAM

by Ann McGrath

I loved cooking when I was a child. By the time I was 8 years old I was making dinner for my family and looking through my mom’s cookbooks for fun.  Now that I have kids of my own, it’s important to me to share my love of cooking with them. Curious Chef products are the perfect tools to do just that. There is so much to love about bringing kids into the kitchen with you, and Curious Chef is committed to this idea.  Curious Chef believes that teaching children to cook builds essential life skills like self-confidence, good eating habits, promotes ownership, fosters math and science skills, listening and following directions, teaches vocabulary, and encourages spending family time together.  These are all qualities that I truly believe are benefits to teaching children to cook, and I was delighted to find a company that shared my feelings so closely.   Curious Chef products impressed me with their quality right from the start. For example, Nylon knives are serrated and have a blunt … [Read more...]

Solar System Free Printable Learning Cards

by Sarah

Solar System Free Printable Learning Cards Featured Image

Why the Solar System Free Printable Learning Cards? My Mom has always said  "If kids learn through play, give them great things to play with." She has always hunted out great things for me to play with that seemed to fit in the world of STEM - Science, Technology, Engineering and Math. She fostered my love of science ever since I was two and walking around saying "I Hypopesize..." This is something fun, free and great for teaching the littles in your life - Free "trading cards" that teach them about the planets in our solar system. Do not get hung up on the details on the cards and think your kids can't understand them. 3 year olds can recite the states and capitols, if someone simply took the time to teach them! It is just amazing what little brains are capable of learning. Trading cards are HOT with kids -- I am still hanging on to my Pokemon stash so refer to these as "trading cards" and your kiddos will go crazy for them! I am sure you can find more trading cards on … [Read more...]

7 Ways Kids Learn From Cooking

7 Ways Kids Learn From Cooking Featured Image

A note from my mom: As our children get older, they are able to help out more around the house. They might even become eager to help out. One big (and sometimes exciting) way that kids can contribute to the household is by getting in the kitchen to cook. You might think that the main benefit of raising junior chefs is that it enables you to take a break from cooking every once in a while. You might even be like me and get excited about the idea of having your kids serve you breakfast in bed that actually tastes good. However, cooking can also be a very educational experience for kids. Here are 7 ways Kids Learn From Cooking. 7 Ways Kids Learn From Cooking Math This is probably the most obvious one. Whether they are measuring flour, counting eggs, sorting beans, or following the sequence of a recipe, math is a subject that figures heavily into cooking. Especially if you are baking and have to be more precise with your ingredients. Reading Breaking out the cookbooks and … [Read more...]
