Can you imagine being only 6 years old and having to take care of your 3 younger siblings and one of them is sick? How about being a parent of 4 and your husband disappears? Maybe you have to figure out a way to help your family and you weren't a legal resident of the United States? All these scenarios came to life for us during the Hard Times tour of the Tenement Museum on the lower east side of New York City. Home to over 7,000 people, the building that has been partially restored and turned into a museum, was an incredible insight for family lives of those newly arrived to our country 100 years ago plus. Cool Moon Phases Trading Cards
I have talked about trading cards before and how they are a great way for teaching the kids! In the summer, the moon is such an accessible STEM item to study as you can see it almost every night. This will let your littles teach the cool moon phases cycle, see the changes and - if you have a telescope, you should encourage them to use it. One thing I thank my parents for (in a list of many things) is that I have a killer telescope. The last eclipse was on a school night but I was allowed to stay up past midnight and watch it! I was totally amazed at how fast the Earth rotates as I had to keep readjusting the tracking focus keep it in my sight.
