Learning and understanding are shown through a baby's development. The big milestones are talking and walking, but what if I told you that introducing your baby to science is just as important? Science helps us to better understand the world. And, babies are trying to understand the world. See the connection? Author Ruth Spiro has taken her love for science and transformed it into adorable baby literature to talk about big scientific concepts on an infant's level. Science is in everything that we see everyday. When you give explanation for these normal occurrences in an age-appropriate way you're starting a conversation that will last a lifetime. Her book series Baby Loves features big scientific concepts as board books with colorful cartoons that explains things on a basic level and makes unrelatable concepts relatable. For example, in Baby Loves Aerospace Engineering! you learn about birds and how they fly. Babies know birds. This book takes a bird flying and translates it … [Read more...]

Happy Atoms Intro Set Featured Image

Are you looking for educational gifts that involve critical thinking to solve problems or an exciting way to turn abstract scientific concepts into tangible learning experiences? Thames & Kosmos has a wide range of educational kits, toys, and games that allow children to see firsthand how fun learning can be for them. We were lucky to try two of their products: Happy Atoms and Word Slam. The Happy Atoms Intro Set takes the smallest particles of our existence and turns them into large, touchable systems that you can watch work by using an app on your smartphone or tablet. Sometimes a hard concept to grasp, Happy Atoms uses 17 atom models to show you how to construct your molecular models by physically snapping the pieces together and observing their behavior digitally. It reinforces the thought that happy atoms are those that stick together and offers you the chance to experience why others do not. The amazing part about this kit is that once you’ve snapped together your … [Read more...]

Mudwatt Microbial Fuel Cell Kit

by Sarah

Science lovers rejoice with a science kit that is not only really cool on it's own but it includes so many scientific topics to observe that it won't get stale. The MudWatt™ Microbial Fuel Cell (MFC) Classic Kit includes everything you need to get started: the anode, cathode, vessel, blink and clock circuits, instructions, nitrile gloves, and free access to the MudWatter teacher's guide and the free MudWatt Explorer App. All you need to provide to get started is a soil sample that you can grab from your own backyard. Most kids would look at you like you're crazy if you told them that you could generate electricity with some dirt. Using the MFC, a bio-electrical device, you can witness the microbes produce electricity when they release their energy. How do they get the energy? Microbes essentially eat the sugars and other nutrients they can find in their environment in this case that would be the soil. Like humans, they use their food as fuel and their fuel happens to be … [Read more...]

National Treasure Movie Study

National Treasure Movie Study

I can't begin to tell you how many times I have heard my mother day "Everything can be a learning experience." Seriously, she means it, LOL! That is why I came up with this simple lesson for watching a Disney movie - it is my National Treasure Movie Study! National Treasure Movie Study Yes, I have a little thing for Nicholas Cage - and adore his quirky personality in his Ben Gates personality. If you aren't familiar with the movie Benjamin Franklin Gates descends from a family of treasure-seekers who've all hunted for the same thing: a war chest hidden by the Founding Fathers after the Revolutionary War. Ben's close to discovering its whereabouts, as is his competition, but the FBI is also hip to the hunt. (according to IMDB). This movie is full of history facts, figures, and great conspiracy theories as it pulls you through the series of twists and turns as the story unfolds. That is what makes it so fun to watch and follow along! Watch it as a family and make sure you … [Read more...]

Safe Breaker is a Spy Code Blast!

by Sarah

Spy Code has an entire line of tabletop board games that are heavily influenced by basic spy skills that you may have seen in the movies. They are the perfect line of games for the entire family especially if your family loves to solve puzzles. It's truly a match for wits when it comes to memory, spy skills, and just a little bit of luck! The game, Safe Breaker, includes a safe stuffed with treasures that you have to crack the number code on to access what's inside. Players are working to collect five golden coins or two diamond coins before anyone else in order to win. Each turn you pick a card and input the safe combination to see if it's a match. A match opens the case and drops some coins, while an incorrect number indicates you need to use your spy gear to listen for a clue about the correct combination. There is no hypothetical safe breaking in this game, which makes it great! Everything is hands on and a real life problem to solve making your successes, setbacks, and … [Read more...]

by Sarah

One of the first things I hear people say is : You are a 9-year-old college student?! Lucky parents! I bet that means the school district has to cough up tuition! Um, no. Just no. I do have a college fund that we can't touch for 6 more years...and it is almost impossible to get a scholarship when you have no high school transcripts! Soooo...that means we get to pay. My mom laughed at my first semester tuition and books -- for just 4 credits - it was just a bit more than what she paid 500 years ago for 17 credits with books! We want to share our Money Saving Tips For College Students.     It's a good thing I make money modeling.   I think we all go through that lovely time in our life when we are totally broke college student. You have to focus on school so you can't work full time as well, and the little money you do make goes towards purchasing books and everything else needed for school. A lot of time you are barely able to buy yourself a decent meal and put gas in your car … [Read more...]
