Hi. My name is Sarah and I am a Science Geek. (big surprise, right?) OK -- this is a game my mom and I have played for a long time - and really taught me the Periodic Table of Elements. So, let me start with a table for you to start playing ... Now, you need the worksheets. We used to have number scavenger hunts. Mom would make a string of numbers and then I would have to use the element code to spell a word. It really helped learn the numbers and match them to the codes. Get your free printables here: Periodic Table Word Challenge and Periodic Table Word Challenge part 2 We also used to make words with the element letters. LiBrArY is a great example. Li+Br+Ar+Y See how cool that is? Here is a couple of worksheets: Get your Free printables here: Periodic Table Word Challenge part 3 and Periodic Table Word Challenge part 4 Do not get hung up on the details on the cards and think your kids can't understand them. 3 year olds can recite the states and capitols, if someone … [Read more...]

I took my first Amtrak train ride this summer with my family -- this is a poem about it...Ode To Amtrak Ode To Amtrak Rumble rumble, click clack, The train comes to a stop. “All aboard!” The conductor says, So on the train we hop. We are seated on the top row, The view is lovely and grand, My first time on a train- oh wow! Then my mom takes my hand. We switch trains in Chicago, Then find our sleeper car. We get up at 4:30 am, An exciting night by far. When switching trains in Pittsburgh, We sit in business class. We go around the Horseshoe Curve, The train steady and fast. We pull into our final stop, I had fun, quite a pity. But now I know I’ll have more fun, Finally! New York City! Rumble rumble, click clack, The train pulls away. I leave the station and find a cab, Today’s been a long day. … [Read more...]
Pumpkin Themed Learning Pack for Preschool
What could be better than a Pumpkin Themed Learning Pack for Preschool kids this time of year? It works for the pre-K to kindergarten age nicely too but you have to do one thing first: print it off. I love this time of year! I get new school supplies, get to go back to school, and enjoy the cooler weather. Ripleys Believe It or Not? You’d Better Believe It!
When I walked into Ripleys I was greeted by a King Kong statue made of old no, recycled tires and a Captain America made of car parts. But it gets weirder: they have a room full of shrunken heads! They also have a collection of two-headed animals, as well as a 16 foot long anaconda, an albino giraffe, and a headless chicken! They have a Buddha statue made of a million dollars in shredded money the government threw out. These are just a few of the hundreds and hundreds of things you can see when you visit Ripley's Believe It or Not! Times Square Museum. Why do I call it a Museum? Easy. Ripley traveled the world collecting things at a time before the Internet. Being able to share them with the people who just visit, in amazing displays, translates to a museum to me. A giant ship model made of Jade? Breathtaking. Videos of Dean Cain from their TV show? Yummy! Most people might not think of a collection of oddities as educational, but they would be incorrect. It is … [Read more...]
American Museum Of Natural History
One of the things on my bucket list was to visit the American Museum of Natural History. I had been teased with it by the Kratt Brothers on their television show, seen it in movies like The Day After Tomorrow and just knew I belonged inside it. I knew it would be Nirvana. Guess What? I was correct! The American Museum of Natural History has a hall of Gems the size of the top floor of my house that had radioactive gems, gems that glowed in the dark, and rare gem statues. Plus gold from the California Gold Rush, at least 15 different pieces of sulfur, and a large mineral hunk at the center of the main room. And of course the hall of meteors was RIGHT NEXT DOOR so yeah, it was like heaven! The Hall of Biodiversity was the one place I wanted to go in there. When I entered the Museum if someone asked me where I wanted to go first I would have said Hall of Biodiversity. Of course, they moved the Dodo bird to one of the showcases and the Tasmanian tiger who-knows-where but I loved it … [Read more...]
Pete’s Dragon Movie Activity Fun!
My Mom got to see Pete's Dragon Movie in LA before it came out in theaters and she LOVED the reboot of the Disney classic. That is why we are sharing the official Disney Pete's Dragon Movie Activity Booklet with you - to have some fun with your furry green friend. Pete's Dragon: Mr. Meacham (Robert Redford), a woodcarver, delights local children with stories of a mysterious dragon that lives deep in the woods of the Pacific Northwest. His daughter Grace (Bryce Dallas Howard) believes these are just tall tales, until she meets Pete (Oakes Fegley), a 10-year-old orphan who says he lives in the woods with a giant, friendly dragon. With help from a young girl named Natalie (Oona Laurence), Grace sets out to investigate if this fantastic claim can be true. I get a kick out of what this reviewer had to say: Despite the vastly improved visuals, the new film is just as soft-hearted — and, unfortunately, just as mush-headed — as the earlier one. He is right, I saw the original with my Mom, … [Read more...]
