7 Tips to Motivating Your Child to Like School

by Dannelle

7 Tips to Motivating Your Child to Like School Featured Image

When your child has to spend 7 hours in a classroom every day, learning new things and doing schoolwork, their love for school can wane. Thankfully, there are ways you can be motivating your child to like school. 7 Tips to Motivating Your Child to Like School: 1. Set goals the child can reach Your child needs goals to work toward in school, but no so many (or such large ones) they feel overwhelmed and discouraged. It is important that you know your child’s strength and weaknesses in order to set the best goals for her. Staying involved in your child’s school progress will make it easier for both of you to establish goals she can reach. 2. Reward good grades Report cards and progress reports come home several times throughout the school year. This should always be a big deal! You have to show your interest in your child’s education for them to be motivated to do well. Reward good grades with a small treat or extra TV time a couple times that week. If there are lower … [Read more...]

Echo Max Rumbler Radio Controlled Car

by Dannelle

My 9-year-old son couldn’t wait to rip open the Echo Max Rumbler radio-controlled car box when it arrived. His first response was how cool it looked. The box states it performs 8 stunts (stand, flip, 360 spin, vertical spin, hyper spin, somersault, side flip, and 360 loop), so we put it to the test. The first thing we noticed was how fast this radio controlled car is….it is crazy! Now I just have to watch out so I don’t get in its way! My son found it very easy to move around with the transmitter. Its design is nice as it flips and just keeps going. This will be a fun toy to take outdoors. This radio controlled car seems very durable, especially for the price. My son has received other radio controlled cars and trucks and they usually don’t last long or perform well. It comes in 2 frequencies, so for even more crazy fun you can buy 2 to race! Disclaimer: We were sent the Echo Max Rumbler in exchange for our review. All thoughts are entirely our own. … [Read more...]

How to Get Your Kids Excited About Going Back to School

by Dannelle

Are your kids dreading going back to school? They won’t be if you try some of these tips! This time can be fun, but it can also be stressful. If your kiddos are fretting, be sure to talk to them about their concerns rather than simply dismissing them. Tell them about the first day jitters you had on your first day of school, or even about a new job you were nervous to start. Talk about what to expect.Look up what they’ll most likely be learning in the next grade. If you have time, order a few workbooks off of Amazon and get them started on a little extra practice for their grade level. If they’re transitioning from half-day to full-day school, talk about what they might spend the extra time doing. For older kids that may be transitioning to middle or high school, talk about the fun elective choices they’ll get, as well as the added responsibility and expected behaviors that come with going into higher grades. Bring them shopping. This is the best way to get them excited! Who … [Read more...]

Amazon’s Annedroids – a STEM Treasure Trove

by Dannelle

I will be the first to admit - we rarely watch television. It is hard to find decent shows for Miss Sarah that have a strong female role model. That is why it was such a treat to learn more about the Emmy nominated series on Amazon called Annedroids that also has a serious STEM curriculum with every episode. We were totally oblivious to this educational treat as we pretty much stopped watching television after Miss Sarah aged out of the shows featured on PBS. There are many reasons behind it; my husband works for a local affiliate so it often seems like going to work if he has the TV on, there are  many more things we could be doing instead of vegging out in front of a lousy show, the simple fact that a lot of the shows are lousy. I am not in favor of Miss Sarah watching a show that glorifies kids who don't respect adults, snarky language or even adult themes. I was treated to advanced views of the upcoming season and was rapidly squeezed out of my chair by Miss Sarah. She … [Read more...]

Pros and Cons of Kids Having Phones

by Dannelle

Kids Having Phones Featured Image

Cell phones are no longer something only the rich kids have at school.  These days, kids without cell phones are the exception.  Especially once you hit the middle school years. A recent study shows that more than 75 percent of kids aged 12 to 17 have their own cell phone. Trust me, there are Pros and Cons of Kids Having Phones. You, as the parent, have the duty to decide if your child will have a phone.  There are some pros and cons to this discussion and we will touch on a few of those here. Here are several of the pros that I have found while researching whether or not a child should have a cell phone. Safety There is no denying the safety and security that having a cell phone offers.  If there were to be an emergency, it makes it easier for your children to contact police or emergency services (as well as you).  In addition, if a family emergency were to occur, or if your child were to become ill, you have a way to contact one … [Read more...]

20 Things Kids Should Do Before They “Grow up”

by Dannelle

20 Things Kids Should Do Before They "Grow Up" Featured Image

I think that when the movie "The Bucket List" was released in 2007, the term became a whole lot more popular. If you don't already know what the term bucket list means it is basically where you create a list of things or goals that you want to do and achieve before you die. Well, I was thinking about creating a childhood bucket list for kids! So obviously this is not a list of things to do before you die, but more or less a list of 20 things kids should do before they grow up. This is not a set list of things that every kid needs or has to do in their lives, but it's just a list of fun things to do as a kid.   20 Things Kids Should Do Before They "Grow up"   1. Go to Disney Land/World: Disney is known as "The Happiest Place on Earth" and I think every kid dreams of visiting Disney at one point. Whether they get one chance to go or several chances to go, going to Disney is a once in a lifetime experience.   2. Go to an Overnight Camp: Going to an overnight camp … [Read more...]
