Tech 4 Kids Fright Factory Creature Creator Kit

by Dannelle

Ewww! Creepy crawly creatures! This Fright Factory Creature Creator is the perfect toy at this time of year. Kids can make rubbery creatures like bugs, worms, and spiders come to life with this easy to use 3-D kit! The timing couldn't be better with Halloween right around the corner. The best thing about this toy is how easy it is to operate. Let's see how it's done! The kit comes with the fright factory creator stage, three molds,  one tube of green gel, and a bonus tube of blue gel. The stage requires 3 AAA batteries (not included). Simply fill a mold with the "Ewwgoo", which you use like a marker, and place it on the creation maker stage. The gel is a bit sticky, but not to worry! The molds contain the goo and they won't leak one drop! Once the mold is in place, simply turn the stage on and rotate the crank to move the UV light bar back and forth over the mold. The UV light will harden the gel with each pass. That's right- no heat! There is no need to worry about your … [Read more...]

by Dannelle

Building sets are tons of fun for all ages.  Whether you are sitting down to assemble a classic Erector set, or jumping over Lego's your kids have left on the floor you know building sets are popular.  If you have a fan on your gift list this year, then this list is perfect for gifting. Building Sets Perfect For Gifting While these are primarily gifted to kids, I am including some great kits that are likely to appeal to not just the kids, but the adults on your list.  We love playing games together as a family, and it can often be something we enjoy with friends when we have company over for dinner.  The idea of setting up some fun building sets appeals to me as a great project that everyone can enjoy together, so this list is ideal for anyone! Building Sets with Gears & Snaps: These great sets are ideal for younger kids or those who want to have some fun creating unique shapes.  From interlocking gears to the plastic snowflake designs shown in these … [Read more...]

Ripleys Believe It or Not? You’d Better Believe It!

by Sarah

Ripleys Believe It or Not Featured Image

When I walked into Ripleys I was greeted by a King Kong statue made of old no, recycled tires and a Captain America made of car parts. But it gets weirder: they have a room full of shrunken heads! They also have a collection of two-headed animals, as well as a 16 foot long anaconda,  an albino giraffe, and a headless chicken! They have a Buddha statue made of a million dollars in shredded money the government threw out. These are just a few of the hundreds and hundreds of things you can see when you visit Ripley's Believe It or Not! Times Square Museum. Why do I call it a Museum?Easy.Ripley traveled the world collecting things at a time before the Internet. Being able to share them with the people who just visit, in amazing displays, translates to a museum to me. A giant ship model made of Jade?  Breathtaking. Videos of Dean Cain from their TV show?  Yummy! Most people might not think of a collection of oddities as educational, but they would be … [Read more...]

American Museum Of Natural History

by Sarah

American Museum Of Natural History Featured Image

One of the things on my bucket list was to visit the American Museum of Natural History. I had been teased with it by the Kratt Brothers on their television show, seen it in movies like The Day After Tomorrow and just knew I belonged inside it. I knew it would be Nirvana. Guess What? I was correct! The American Museum of Natural History has a hall of Gems, the size of the top floor of my house that has radioactive gems, gems that glowed in the dark, and rare gem statues. Plus gold from the California Gold Rush, at least 15 different pieces of sulfur, and a large mineral hunk at the center of the main room. And of course, the hall of meteors was RIGHT NEXT DOOR, so yeah, it was like heaven! The Hall of Biodiversity was the one place I wanted to go in there. When I entered the Museum, if someone asked me where I wanted to go first, I would have said Hall of Biodiversity. Of course, they moved the Dodo bird to one of the showcases and the Tasmanian tiger, who knows where, … [Read more...]

Pete’s Dragon Movie Activity Fun!

by Sarah

Pete's Dragon Movie Activity Fun Featured Image

My Mom got to see Pete's Dragon Movie in LA before it came out in theaters, and she LOVED the reboot of the Disney classic. That is why we are sharing the official Disney Pete's Dragon Movie Activity Booklet with you - to have some fun with your furry green friend. Pete's Dragon: Mr. Meacham (Robert Redford), a woodcarver, delights local children with stories of a mysterious dragon that lives deep in the woods of the Pacific Northwest. His daughter Grace (Bryce Dallas Howard) believes these are just tall tales, until she meets Pete (Oakes Fegley), a 10-year-old orphan who says he lives in the woods with a giant, friendly dragon. With help from a young girl named Natalie (Oona Laurence), Grace sets out to investigate if this fantastic claim can be true. I get a kick out of what this reviewer had to say: Despite the vastly improved visuals, the new film is just as soft-hearted — and, unfortunately, just as mush-headed — as the earlier one. He is right, I saw the … [Read more...]

Tenement Museum Sheds Light on Immigrant’s Lives

by Sarah

Tenement Museum Sheds Light on Immigrant's Lives Featured Image

Can you imagine being only 6 years old and having to take care of your 3 younger siblings and one of them is sick? How about being a parent of 4 and your husband disappears? Maybe you have to figure out a way to help your family and you weren't a legal resident of the United States? All these scenarios came to life for us during the Hard Times tour of the Tenement Museum on the lower east side of New York City. Home to over 7,000 people, the building that has been partially restored and turned into a museum, was an incredible insight for family lives of those newly arrived to our country 100 years ago plus. Photo Credit: Courtesy of the Lower East Side Tenement Museum Where a row of houses originally stood, and had been divided up so 3-5 families could live in each one, became a series of tenements. These newer buildings took up the same space as the old houses but could easily house 20+ families in a series of 3 room "apartments. Photo Credit: Courtesy of the Lower East … [Read more...]
