Teaching Camping and Outdoor Safety to Kids

Summer is coming up soon and that means warm weather, kids are out of school, and there is a ton of fun to be had. One of my favorite things to do with my family is to go camping. It's a great, affordable way to have fun together without having to worry about going to extravagant things and spending a ton of money. Simplicity can be just a fun as long as you have the right people to spend that time with. When it comes to camping with your kids it is important to be safe and make sure they know how to stay safe. I am going to be sharing with you a few safety tips that you should be Teaching Camping and Outdoor Safety to Kids...I won't say which ones I learned the hard way.     Teaching Camping and Outdoor Safety to Kids -Always Stay Close to Camp:Kids should never ever wander off alone when they are camping. Teaching Your Kids A Good Work Ethic Featured Image

Our job as parents is to teach our kids about life and mold them into responsible adults as we raise them everyday. As much as we may not like to think about it like this, we have to prepare our kids to be adults because they will grow up one day. Once they are old enough, our kids will eventually get their very own jobs and one thing we need to teach them about is having a good work ethic. This is such an important trait to have because you have to work hard to be successful in life and your kids need to know this. Today I am going to be sharing with you a few tips for teaching your kids a good work ethic that will definitely prepare them for their adulthood.   Teaching Your Kids A Good Work Ethic -Give Chores: I think it is so important to give your kids chores because it is essentially their first "job". Grab My Summer Time Bucket List

Grab My Summer Time Bucket List Featured Image

School ends here on June 10th and I am SO ready for a little time off! It seems like summer should last almost forever but it goes pretty quickly and I hate thinking "I should have done that" when it's time to go back to school. That is why everyone needs to Grab My Summer Time Bucket List. Why have a bucket list for the break over the summer? It helps you focus on things that you might want to do before the kids are locked back away at school for weeks on end. This is kind of an ultimate list, made by kids - FOR kids! You can see that the beach is actually on it, not once, but twice, as it is one of our favorite places to go. We simply had to make sure it was visited more than once over the vacation! We always make a summer bucket list here, and this year is no exception! We don't get to everything on the list, but it is a great resource for those days when we wonder what we might do - a quick look at the list and an idea or two jumps out, and we are back on track. I am … [Read more...]

I Was In An Opera

I Was In An Opera Featured Image

There is a fun program called Opera For The Young and I was able to take part of it! They travel around school districts and have all the materials that are needed -- before hand and on the actual day of the performance. So, I Was In An Opera! I was the Justice Of The Piece and was to perform a marriage ceremony. Unfortunately for the "happy couple" I was interrupted too many times to complete the ceremony and the hero was able to step in and take away the girl. For several weeks, we (me and the other kids) met before school to practice our parts. Then the day arrived for a dress rehearsal and the performance. We did the opera for the entire middle school -- it was a hoot! I have been on stage since I was 2, signing and dancing, so this was just a ton of fun for me, and the adult cast was a treat to work with! I highly suggest you try to get YOUR school involved -- it is a great program! Opera for the Young® brings live, professional opera to elementary school … [Read more...]

Girl Scouts Day at the Capitol

by Sarah

Girl Scouts Day Featured Image

One thing I love about Girl Scouts is the simple fact that they have a TON Of great programs that you can do either as a troop or by yourself. The Girl Scouts Day at the Capitol is a great example of that -- and was a ton of fun! Girl Scouts Day at the Capitol Show your Girl Scout pride and interest in citizenship as we spend a day at the Capitol. Meet women from our Legislature and hear why they chose this path- of representing us! When you are NOT with your troop - you tend to meet other great girls and create new friendships! That happened to me - I met and made friends with a gal who has the same goofy humor as I do. As part of Girl Scouts Day, we got a behind-the-scenes tour of the beautiful building and even met a few representatives, so we actually met all the qualifications to earn the Inside Government Patch! Here we are deciding how we plan to vote for the proposed motion.. It was a fun day and I really learned a lot about our local government - perfect … [Read more...]
