7 Reasons To Take Your Kids To The Library This Summer

by Sarah

Here are some great reasons to take your kids to the library this summer. If you are like me, getting out of the house for some different scenery is important. The library is an excellent free place to go. Since it is so easy to find a local library and financially it works well for everyone, it is a must do on our summer list of kids activities. While every library is different, these are available at our local library and we have found similar if not all at other libraries as well.

7 Reasons To Take Your Kids To The Library This Summer

Video game clubs. Almost every library has a club or group that meets to play video games, talk about the latest games, learn more or participate in contests. Since most libraries also let you check out video games to use for a few days, you’ll find a large variety to make any kid happy to go. Video games can be fun, educational and a great way to spend some time on summer break.

Arts & crafts. There are tons of great arts and crafts to do with kids at the library each summer. Most will have a great weekly schedule set up to enjoy crafts for specific age groups on select days. Occasionally there will be classes that you have to sign up for o participate in. Kids can learn new art forms, make something fun to take home, and you will have a great hour of free time to relax and read a book or magazine of your own at the library.

Movie days. Many libraries offer free movie events during the summer months for kids to attend. Check with your library to find out dates and times of their movie events. Often these are also pajama parties with popcorn, snacks and fun times for all ages. Some libraries have overnight events you can pay a small fee to participate in.

Improve reading skills. If your kids are struggling with reading, the library is perfect for helping them get excited about books and learn to read better and more. From group reading times, to simply giving them a chance to explore new and different genres they might not have seen before, the library is a whole new world for someone wanting to learn to read or read more.

Book clubs. There are great book clubs for adults and kids at the library. You can participate at no cos by checking out the selected book and showing up on book club day to chat about what you have read. This is a fun way to make new friends as well as learn more about how to absorb what you read as you go.

Science clubs. Many libraries also offer science clubs you can join to learn more about various things like computer programming, engineering, animals and more. Kids can participate on their level easily, and you can enjoy watching them get excited about learning something new and useful.

Music classes. Some libraries also have music classes your kids can participate in during the summer months. From local artists, to simply learning about different instruments, this is a great way for your kids to spend time at the library in the summer.

These are just 7 (of many) reasons to take your kids to the library this summer are sure to make everyone in the family happy. Fun and education combine for a great time for all ages at the library.
