Save on College Books – RENT Them!

by Dannelle

Let’s face it, college books can be the top expense for college students, after tuition. That is why I was so excited to learn of Campus Book Rentals and be asked to share my thoughts with you because 500 years ago, when I put myself through college, I found book buying time to be horribly stressful. I had saved my own money, had grants and did work-study, but it all still came out of my own pockets. The list of what I HAD to have for my classes seemed to get longer, and longer, and longer….and I could literally hear the “cha-ching” of the register in my head as I added each textbook to my stack. Keep in mind that I bought USED books, not new…and they still mounted to a hefty total! I would have loved to know how to save money on college books.

500 years later, with kids now coming out of college attached to $200,000+ in debt, ANY way that you can trim expenses is fantastic!

Save money on college books

That is where Campus Book Rentals comes in.
They have been around since 2007 and the more I learned about them, the more excited I got! You RENT your books instead of buying them, get FREE shipping (for delivery and return) and have all the “ownership” privileges like being able to hi-lite them.
When you are done with the class, you ship it back (for FREE) instead of waiting in the resale line, only to learn that those books aren’t going to be used next semester…
yes, I have been there and done that {sigh}
You save 40-90% off of bookstore prices !!!

Now, it gets BETTER!
Y’all know how I preach to give back, right?

THEY DO!

Each text book rented equals a donation to Operation Smile! Operation Smile provides free surgeries to repair cleft lip, cleft palate and other facial deformities for children around the globe. Just 45 minutes and $240 can really change a life. It’s amazing what they have done over the last 30 years.
Arfiase, before and after surgery
They also set aside $90,000 in textbook scholarships to be distributed to students. (Scholarships are another great way to help eliminate that $200,000 debt, but that is another topic for another day…)

Now, I know there are other book rental places out there — but this caught my eye:

“There are no fees for signup. When you rent textbooks from us, there are no membership fees, hidden fees, or anything unusual whatsoever. We display the price you pay to rent the book, and that’s it. What you see is what you get. “

So…

  • You can rent instead of buy
  • They have 30 Risk-Free Returns
  • They have the largest selection of any College Book Rental Companies
  • They have live support staff
  • What you see, is what you get
  • They have a new program for those who already own text books and want to sell them!

Yes, instead of waiting in that line to have the book store buy them back (for 1/10th the price you paid for them), RentBack is new their initiative that allows students to rent the textbooks they own – to other students. You can actually check online to see how much your book might make you!

I know college expenses were a HUGE topic for every “Children on the Cheap” class I have taught, so all you Moms need to bookmark their site for when you are ready to ship your babies off to school.
I know I did.
