Discover Kids Dinosaur Factivity

by Ann McGrath

dinosaur factivity

As the mother of a curious and precocious six year old, I am a big fan of all of the STEAM toys that are available lately. I especially like any opportunity I get to reinforce the idea to my daughter that she is free to enjoy whatever it is she likes and that there is not such thing as a “girl’s toy or boy’s toy”. My daughter told me she wants to be a paleontologist when she grows up and I like that idea. The Discover Kids Dinosaur Factivity is a perfect toy for any up and coming dinosaur hunter. The first and most prominent feature is a ten piece dinosaur model that your child can assemble. My daughter and her dad had a great time putting together this triceratops and going over all of the features of the skeleton. My six year old needed some help from her dad, but the bones assemble pretty quickly and easily. The final product is a very cool miniature skeleton. Even better is the Land of Dinosaurs book that accompanies the skeleton with the Discover Kids Dinosaur … [Read more...]

I Was a Time Traveler with Girl Scouts

by Sarah

I Was a Time Traveler

One of the things I love about being a Girl Scout is the huge host of program opportunities. We see giant lists of fun things every time we get a new "Pathfinder" booklet. This was one of those things: Time Traveler. We got to spend 4 hours at the Indian Agency House of Portage and basically step into the past. I learned how Wisconsin was special to the founder of Girl Scouts (Juliette Gordon Low) as her grandparents lived here. We toured her grandparents house and did things that girls would have done 100 years ago like: churned butter, made corn husk dolls, spun wool, and more! It timed perfectly with Juilette's birthday so we were also treated to cake and punch - which gave us energy to hit the trails there for a quick walk. The best part? I always make a new friend from some other troop at these events I can't wait for my next Girl Scout Adventure! Liked hearing how I was a Time Traveler? Spring Break

by Sarah

I'M SO HAPPY!!!!! I finally got the freedom I wanted for spring break. I had a blast at my grandparents, spent the day with my other grandpa, and threw up (Long story. Allergies suck!) Anyway, I'm better now, so today I have a play date with my five year old friend who should be here in a hour, have a sleepover with my bestie, and stuff my face with fritters at the Dorf Haus fish fry with my family and bestie.  So yeah, today will be awesome! Tomorrow I am attending three Easter egg hunts with my bestie, finishing a movie, watching another movie, eating popcorn, eating my Easter candy, putting out my Easter basket, and enjoying my freedom. Wishing you a happy Easter! Sarah … [Read more...]

Science Explosion – a Total Blast!

by Dannelle

Science Explosion - a Total Blast!

When I was a kid, I used to love all of the educational shows that would come on TV before & after school. Bill Nye, and Reading Rainbow are just two of many that I enjoyed during my own childhood. One show that I also enjoyed when I was a kid and that is still popular all these years later, is The Magic School Bus. It was jam-packed with humor, educational and animated in a style that easily got kids hooked on the series. Now that I have my own daughter I've found that The Magic School Bus is still pretty popular, so, I've loved being able to introduce my daughter to something that I used to love so much. The fact that it is also filled to bursting with a plethora of educational content, specifically science, was just an added bonus. Read on to learn why I think Science Explosion is a Total Blast! Recently I was given the opportunity to work with a company by the name of The Young Scientist Club; given my daughters interest in science as a subject, I was only too happy to … [Read more...]

Busy Week

by Sarah

I hardly have had any wiggle room for the last couple days because it was such a busy week. On Monday I had to sing at a concert, but that started 15 minutes after my jazz lessons. So I had to wear stage makeup to jazz. Also, we had a hard time finding the place I needed to be. On Tuesday was my talent show audition, which was an hour after school and an hour before my ballet class (you can probably tell I like dance.) I also had to do college stuff. Today I had to print off pictures in the school computer lab with another boy. It was the end of the day and he rode the bus so I said I would print off his pictures and mine so he would make it to the bus in time. So I did that, then had to run back to the classroom, pack up, and leave. As soon as I got home I had to get ready for my TV interview, and I had to read my college textbook (I still haven't finished the chapter yet) and after that I had to quickly eat dinner then bolt to swimming (I was a titch late.) After … [Read more...]
