disclosure: we were provided a free set of the Laser Pegs Educational Series for purposes of review and to leave with a kindergarten class. All thoughts and observations are entirely our own. We have talked about Laser Pegs on my Mom's Site (HERE) and this is a similar product. The battery loaded base is still a storage case and interchangeable with other sets but the "blocks" are larger for smaller hands. 39 games. That is what the box said and we checked it out when I took the set into the Kindergarten class that I work with. Everything from basic checkers to tic-tac-toe is playable and for the really adventurous, you can even practice words for spelling bees! I explained this to the class and then, shut off the lights so they could see the "laser" part of it. THAT really tripped their triggers! After I explained it to the class, we split into small groups and they took turns playing with the set. They made towers, checked out shapes, spelled words, classified colors and more! … [Read more...]
20 Things Kids Should Do Before They “Grow up”
I think that when the movie "The Bucket List" was released in 2007, the term became a whole lot more popular. If you don't already know what the term bucket list means it is basically where you create a list of things or goals that you want to do and achieve before you die. Well, I was thinking about creating a childhood bucket list for kids! So obviously this is not a list of things to do before you die, but more or less a list of 20 things kids should do before they grow up. This is not a set list of things that every kid needs or has to do in their lives, but it's just a list of fun things to do as a kid. 20 Things Kids Should Do Before They "Grow up" 1. Go to Disney Land/World: Disney is known as "The Happiest Place on Earth" and I think every kid dreams of visiting Disney at one point. Whether they get one chance to go or several chances to go, going to Disney is a once in a lifetime experience. 2. Go to an Overnight Camp: Going to an overnight camp as a child gives you an … [Read more...]
Discover Kids Dinosaur Factivity
As the mother of a curious and precocious six year old, I am a big fan of all of the STEAM toys that are available lately. I especially like any opportunity I get to reinforce the idea to my daughter that she is free to enjoy whatever it is she likes and that there is not such thing as a “girl’s toy or boy’s toy”. My daughter told me she wants to be a paleontologist when she grows up and I like that idea. The Discover Kids Dinosaur Factivity is a perfect toy for any up and coming dinosaur hunter. The first and most prominent feature is a ten piece dinosaur model that your child can assemble. My daughter and he dad had a great time putting together this triceratops and going over all of the features of the skeleton. My six year old needed some help from her dad, but the bones assemble pretty quickly and easily. The final product is a very cool miniature skeleton. Even better is the Land of Dinosaurs book that accompanies the skeleton with the Discover Kids Dinosaur Factivity. … [Read more...]

I Was a Time Traveler with Girl Scouts
One of the things I love about being a Girl Scout is the huge host of program opportunities. We see giant lists of fun things every time we get a new "Pathfinder" booklet. This was one of those things: Time Traveler. We got to spend 4 hours at the Indian Agency House of Portage and basically step into the past. I learned how Wisconsin was special to the founder of Girl Scouts (Juliette Gordon Low) as her grandparents lived here. We toured her grandparents house and did things that girls would have done 100 years ago like: churned butter, made corn husk dolls, spun wool, and more! It timed perfectly with Juilette's birthday so we were also treated to cake and punch - which gave us energy to hit the trails there for a quick walk. The best part? I always make a new friend from some other troop at these events I can't wait for my next Girl Scout Adventure! Liked hearing how I was a Time Traveler? Spring Break
I'M SO HAPPY!!!!! I finally got the freedom I wanted for spring break. I had a blast at my grandparents, spent the day with my other grandpa, and threw up (Long story. Allergies suck!) Anyway, I'm better now, so today I have a play date with my five year old friend who should be here in a hour, have a sleepover with my bestie, and stuff my face with fritters at the Dorf Haus fish fry with my family and bestie. So yeah, today will be awesome! Tomorrow I am attending three Easter egg hunts with my bestie, finishing a movie, watching another movie, eating popcorn, eating my Easter candy, putting out my Easter basket, and enjoying my freedom. Wishing you a happy Easter! Sarah … [Read more...]
