6 Animals To Study In Kids Science Homeschool Class

Elephants: These creatures are truly unique. Not only are there both African and Asian elephants, they have unique needs and ways of survival. They are often seen together in zoos, but you can easily talk about differences in them physically, as well as they way their families interact with each other. Elephants may be true giants in the animal kingdom, but overall they are very gentle creatures unless they feel threatened.

Sharks: Since there are so many types of sharks, this is a great unit study. You can share about every type of shark, their habitats, habits and where they are located. You can talk about safety around sharks, what causes them to attack and their function in the sea. If you have a local zoo or aquarium, you can easily visit and see some of these first hand.

Kangaroos: These fun marsupials are a great animal to study in kids science homeschool classes. They are known for living in Australia, but are also commonly mentioned due to the way they carry their babies in a pouch on their fronts. Excellent parents and defenders of their family and homes, kangaroos are great fun creatures to learn about.

Sea Horses: A sea horse is one of a kind in the animal kingdom. It is one of the only animals where the male carries the babies. It is a beautiful and unique sea creature that many will love learning about. There are tons of videos online, pictures in books and local aquariums to check out and supplement your class work.

Penguins: Contrary to popular belief, penguins don’t have to be in a frozen climate to survive. They do love cooler climates, but are found all over the world in zoos. They are also unique in that the males protect the eggs until birth. They often travel in large groups and have a very familial life. You can also spend time distinguishing between penguins that don’t fly and puffins that do fly.

Bees: Bees are an excellent animal to study. Yes, they are insects, but they are amazing creatures to learn from. Not only are they vital to our Eco-system, they are tons of fun to watch function together. Bees are often feared because of their sting, but when not threatened, they are calm an do great work. You can study how they help pollinate plants, as well as how they make honey. You’ll also be able to cover the different types of bees and their individual functions in our environment.

These animals to study in kids science homeschool class will keep your children learning great new things happily. Kids of all ages love to learn about animals, and especially ones that have incredible families, ways of life and impact on our environments.
