STEM Life with a nine-year-old college student

Puzzlets = STEM Fun!

by Dannelle

If you’re like me and have small children in your home then you know how important it is as a parent to supply your little ones with toys that are fun as well as educational. In a world where game consoles, tablets, phones and other technological gadgets run the show, it can be hard to find educational toys for kids that actually do more good than harm to our little ones educational development. As a mom who is constantly looking for new ways to challenge my little ones, I was thrilled to stumble across Puzzlets by Digital Dream Labs.

Puzzlets put fun and learning hand-in-hand with gameplay that leads kids to think in new ways. We all learn from the games we play so taking this knowledge and pairing it with the STEAM technology, the folks behind Puzzlets have created a new way of learning for kids that is educational as well as fun. Short for Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics, the STEAM program aims to teach its students to think critically (science and math) and creatively (art and design) and then to join the creative and critical to solve real world problems (engineering).

Not much has changed since the days of our childhood: back when we were young there was a standard game console, game cartridges and a controller. With Puzzlets, not much has changed since the time of our childhood. The Play Tray is the new console, Puzzlets are the controller and new downloadable games are the new cartridges.

How it all works: The Play Tray acts like an antenna, pulling the commands from the Puzzlets into gameplay. From there Puzzlets are the controller used to navigate your childs games. In Cork the Volcano, you think like a programmer by using programming Puzzlets to move game characters to their goal.

Each Puzzlet is compatible with any device you own and include: iPad, Android, iMac, and more.

The Puzzlet Starter Kit Includes:

  • 3 Puzzlet Tiles
  • Play Tray
  • 22 Programmable Tiles
  • Cork the Volcano Game Download
  • Storage Pouch
  • 1 USB Cord
  • Quick Start Guide

It us easy to use and they learn more than they could know while playing.
