Numbers Alive Adds Up to Learning Fun

by Sarah

Designed by Rebecca Klemm, PhD, Numbers Alive is an exciting way to teach children about the patterns around them and the relevancy of numbers as a story. Team Ten, her characters, includes the numbers zero to ten who have their own backstories, personalities, and likes that are very educational and cleverly fit into her numeric relevancy stories. She also created the STEM Squad that includes: Pi, Phi, Infinity, and The Imaginary Unit that takes numbers and mathematical concepts into middle and high school levels.

Numbers Alive Adds Up to Learning Fun

Numbers Alive educational materials go from infant to adult and include a wide range of products. For example, Baby’s First Christmas Decoration and STEM Learning Tool Kit is a fabric book that is a first introduction to numbers. The book itself is soft, crinkles, and promotes exploration. She’s included elements that are appropriate for infants to keep them exploring, discovering, and engaged. Another fun addition to this book kit is the carrying handle that helps establish some ownership and independence.

A family favorite is the 12 Notes of Christmas DVD; it’s a 25 minute video taking viewers on a global quest. Starring Team Ten, you see them trying to find instruments to play for Shakespeare on the Twelfth Night. You’ll see diverse cultures and their holiday traditions, foods, music, and more! This DVD can be viewed in its entirety at once or broken into 13 segments at about one minute each to be shown once a day for 13 days (the 12 days of Christmas and Christmas Day).

STEM Squad has so many cool products that would be great for middle and high school students. The myPi kit has it all: Pi Baker’s Hat, Plush Pi, Pi 3D Glasses, Pocket Pi Geek Tape Measure, and Pi Wall Decoration Postcards. All of these Pi products are going to surprise any of the number lovers on your gift list! Plush Pi is great for decoration or play and even includes a multi-colored decimal expansion of Pi printed right on it.

Impress your friends with your Pocket Pi complete with 400+ digits of Pi while still being functional for centimeter measurements or pull out the Pi refraction glasses for an interesting view of your lighted surroundings. Share with your friends any of the Pi cards that include number facts, fun photos, and overall showcase Pi! For added fun, you can toss in a Clip Keychain Plush Pi to take with you on your backpack.

Something for the adults is the Puzzling Polygons set it’s four puzzles of six pieces each. You use the four non-equilateral shapes: triangles, hexagons, pentagons, and quadrilaterals to make equilateral version of themselves using all of one kind of shape. It’s a fun way to construct tangrams yet challenging to figure out because it is not obvious what is the top and bottom of each piece.

Numbers Alive is a great geeky gift for the person who loves math, the educator, or the person who is all about STEM products!
