How Superior is Superior Wisconsin? LOTS!!!

by Sarah

WOW! From Wisconsin Point to Billings Park to Sweeden Sweets candy shop, the city of Superior Wisconsin lives up to its name.
I was able to visit that lovely area because we went there on a family mission trip sponsored by YouthWorks.

We stayed at Zion Lutheran Church. (I admit, even I couldn’t resist the fact that Culver’s was RIGHT NEXT DOOR!) During the day, we helped at Catholic Charities where we weeded and planted flowers for one of their residential sites.

We also visited the Golden Living Senior Center. There we passed out snacks, played piano for the residents, and helped with the weekly Yahtzee tournament. (the winner gets a whole dollar!) Anyway, it was really fun.

How Superior is Superior Wisconsin meals with our group

At Zion took turns with general chores and even we made our meals, including spaghetti, pulled pork, and mac `n cheese. In the evenings he had Family devotion time at Wisconsin Point one night and dinner at Billings park another. That was a time for us to focus on why we were serving others and our relationship with God. We sang songs, prayed together and worked our way through a Sticky Faith curriculum. Our outside locations really made you feel closer to God!

How Superior is Superior Wisconsin enjoying a campfire by the water

Wisconsin Point in Superior Wisconsin, was fun for so many reasons. Simply Beautiful. What more can you say about sitting by a campfire that was fueled on some of the driftwood you fed to it as you look out over Lake Superior? Kids can run along the shore and play in the water or brave the rocky adventure as they hike out to the lighthouse.

How Superior is Superior Wisconsin reenactment of Jesus washing feet

We reenacted the Jesus Foot washing story by taking turns washing each other’s feet. It was pretty cool even if they instantly got sandy again from the beach. We ended the day munching on s’mores as the sun set over the water. As I said, simply beautiful.

How Superior is Superior Wisconsin Billings Park

Billings Park in Superior Wisconsin, had everything you would think a park had: shelter houses, a playground, picnic tables, and more. We enjoyed a grilled burger/hot dog dinner and then drew attention as we were singing songs and coming up with “Yay God” moments. We got a few funny looks from people walking by – like we were a cult or something, LOL! I will admit, I didn’t know a mission trip was so “churchy,” but was OK with the entire experience.

If you ever get a chance to do something like this, TAKE IT! It is truly epic and you can’t pass it up! (especially if Culvers is next door LOL!)
