Gears! Sweet Shop Building Set … Creative and Colorful

by Dannelle

Gears! Sweet Shop Building Set Cover Image

I love STEM toys and jumped at the opportunity to try out the Learning Resources Gears Sweet Shop Building Set. The colors are vibrant and the lollipops, cupcakes, and ice cream cones make this a cute building set.

The packaging is nice and easy to open. The box is durable for storing the pieces, and there are only two bags to open up and throw away. 82 pieces are included, and a sticker sheet. The pieces are very durable and well-made. My son, who is good at destroying things, received a different Learning Resources Gears set a few years ago, and it is still intact!

While there are instructions on putting the set together like how it is shown on the box, it allows children to be creative. They can choose to follow those instructions and/or create their own design! I reminded my 7-year-old of this a few times when putting it together. She is so used to following directions that she felt everything had to match exactly, even as to the colors. The pieces are interchangeable and can be used with other sets. There are also stickers included to decorate the pieces.

The pieces are a nice size and they are easy to connect. It took some time and my daughter enjoyed putting it all together. Once the set is built, you use the gear handle to see everything move and spin. Best of all… NO batteries are required!

This is both a fun and educational STEM toy. It uses fine motor skills, hand-eye coordination, creativity, and teaching cause and effect. It would make a nice birthday or holiday gift. It would be great in the classroom as well!
