STEM Life with a nine-year-old college student

VEX Robotics Bargain at BestBuy

by Sarah

With so many new dolls, figurines and video games out on the market today, it can be hard to find new and exciting toys for our children. This is especially true if you have a child who likes to think outside of the box and enjoys tinkering with objects rather than being entertained by your average pre-assembled, brand name toys and gadgets. If you’re child is anything like mine and has a thirst for engineering something out of nothing, then I’d love to tell my readers about the awesome opportunity I received to partner with Best Buy to talk about Vex Robotics by HEX to review one of their innovative construction kits.

Let’s face it. STEM became STEAM, and now, it is STREAM: Science – Technology – Robotics – Engineering – Arts – Math. At VEX Robotics, their mission is to introduce children to science, technology, engineering, and mathematics at an early age through robotics. Each of their robotics kits encourages children to stretch their imaginations while creating a fully functional robot.

Designed originally for the classroom, VEX Robotics provides educators with the tools they need to teach STEM principles (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics) while maintaining an engaging, hands-on experience for their students. HEXBUG and VEX Robotics have teamed up to bring this educational experience right to your door.

Each of their constructive sets features two alternate building plans, and all of their parts are also compatible with educational VEX IQ pieces, so your child can complete their very own custom VEX Robot. How neat!

The construction kit I received for review is called the Vex Robotic Arm.

Challenging its engineers to build their brain while also creating a variety of possible mapped out projects, the Vex Robotic Arm is the perfect gift for any child who likes to create and be challenged. Once built, it enables your child to pick up items with a 350-degree spin and work like its real-life counterpart with its mechanical arm.  Combining engineering, science, and mathematics, this utilizes over 350 easy-to-snap-together pieces while encouraging its builder to delve into the world of creative engineering and robotics.

The VEX Robotics Robotic Arm (PN 406-4202; MSRP $49.99) is complaint with CPSIA standards. Batteries not required. Ages: 8 years and up.

Disclosure: The reviewer has been compensated in the form of a Best Buy Gift Card and/or received the product/service at a reduced price or for free.  All thoughts are my own and and now Miss Sarah is going to take it apart and build the scorpion!
