STEM Life with a nine-year-old college student

Baby Loves STEM Books

by Sarah

Learning and understanding are shown through a baby’s development. The big milestones are talking and walking, but what if I told you that introducing your baby to science is just as important? Science helps us to better understand the world. And, babies are trying to understand the world. See the connection?

Baby Loves STEM Books Starts Them Early

Author Ruth Spiro has taken her love for science and transformed it into adorable baby literature to talk about big scientific concepts on an infant’s level. Science is in everything that we see everyday. When you give explanation for these normal occurrences in an age-appropriate way you’re starting a conversation that will last a lifetime.

Her book series Baby Loves features big scientific concepts as board books with colorful cartoons that explains things on a basic level and makes unrelatable concepts relatable. For example, in Baby Loves Aerospace Engineering! you learn about birds and how they fly. Babies know birds. This book takes a bird flying and translates it into how planes fly and even rockets making a better connection to the highly intellectual field of aerospace engineering for a little learner.

Other books in her series include:

Baby Loves Quarks! takes a look at the basics of physics and chemistry. It talks about quarks, protons, neutrons, atoms, and molecules. Spiro writes that babies like to build things with blocks and so does nature. The way she lays the dots and connects them is truly remarkable.

Baby Loves Quantum Physics! says it all with a fun game of hide-and-seek with Schrodinger’s cat using language that babies can understand. It’s not whether the cat is alive or dead but whether it can be awake or asleep at the same time. It’s a cute introduction to quantum physics sure to get your infant babbling cat or kitty before you know it!

Baby Loves Thermodynamics! focuses on the science of heat and energy. You talk about the flow of energy from the Sun to things that babies know the in the world like the sun transfers energy to an apple that then transfers energy to the baby. That snack time apple quickly becomes a fuel for the baby, but maybe all they can think about is how yummy it is!

Ruth Spiro has a cute series for infants on science with even more books to look forward to in 2018. Parents and caregivers alike will definitely learn some new things and be just as in awe as their little bundle of joy when they’re learning about science.
