How To Homeschool For Free

by Dannelle

When you first consider homeschooling your children you probably don’t want to invest a lot of money.  These tips for How To Homeschool For Free are tried and true options that many of my friends who homeschool have used for years.  You can easily provide education at home without spending a ton of money out of pocket.

How To Homeschool For Free

Take advantage of the online free curriculum: There are tons of great options online for totally free curriculum.  In fact, if you want to learn how to homeschool for free, this is the number one suggestion.  You can truly find almost everything you need online already.

Some great options for starting:

  • Easy Peasy All In One Homeschool is a complete homeschool curriculum sorted by grade
  • Donna Young Charlotte Mason Style Learning
  • Notebooking Fairy for lap book and note booking unit study
  • Teachers Pay Teachers for free printables and lesson plans (this site has many paid options as well)
  • Kahn Academy for great math drills, computer programming, science, history, and art videos and reviews

Utilize local homeschool groups: One of the best local resources it to get in touch with your local homeschool groups.  Most communities have at least one group that meets together for playtime, field trips, and even co-op teaching arrangements.  Search on Google for your local county, city, and state homeschool groups, as well as looking on Facebook or even LinkedIn.  These are great places to connect with others that are homeschooling in your community.

Visit your library regularly: Check with your local library for any homeschool programs that they have on their calendar.  You will also find that using the library for books, research, and time out of the house is a valuable part of homeschooling.  The library is going to be a huge resource for your family when homeschooling.  The possibilities are endless.

Attend book swaps: Many local homeschool groups offer book swaps each year for families to swap out resources they no longer need for items they will use the next school year.  You can also look into places like your library, local schools, and even used bookstores for book swaps or ways to earn credit to “buy” books for cheap or free to use in your classroom.

Create your own curriculum:  If you find that your child does better with one thing than another, you can make your own curriculum.  It is easy to create word searches, review sheets, and even to simply pull out books on subjects to create a unit study for your kids to go through.  Creating your own curriculum is a great way to use these tips for how to homeschool for free!

Whether you are just trying to get started with how to homeschool or you are a veteran homeschooler trying to cut your budget, this is a great place to begin.
