Sarah Lyn Gay

STEM Life with a nine-year-old college student

Camp Invention- Why you NEED to go

by Sarah

Camp Invention is my first thing on my bucket list this summer and by far my favorite. My kindergarten teacher (LOVE HER!) told my mom ab0ut it when she was my teacher. We traveled back and forth to Verona each day that week so I could attend and my mom was a helper volunteer for the discount. Not only was Camp Invention totally fun, I learned so much! Bonus: they give all campers a T-shirt as part of the registration cost.

Camp Invention- Why you NEED to go

I simply love the creativity, planning and support that goes into it. It is incredible and you can create anything you want. I made a doll, control panel, fur color changer, golf set (complete with a smiling golf ball) and about a million other things.

I don’t want you to think that it’s all just building things with recyclable materials, there is an actual curriculum planned out each year with actual STEM concepts involved.

Created by the National Inventors Hall of Fame, Camp Invention is the only nationally recognized summer program focused on creativity, innovation, real-world problem solving and the spirit of invention. They partner with the United States Patent and Trademark Office and the Collegiate Inventors Competition, and everything they do is inspired by the world’s smartest inventors.

What does that mean?
The “play” the kids get has a real purpose: it’s educational. Creative thinking and problem solving is encouraged as solutions are hunted for to relate to real world problems. Usually 4 different modules and time for both lunch and play makes for a full day of fun and the week is wrapped up with the Inventor’s Showcase!

My point is Camp Invention is kid friendly, fun, and a total blast!

So, what are you waiting for? Sigh your kiddo up TODAY for Camp Invention — I will be at the one in Sun Prairie, led by Erin Fritz. My Mom is the “Camp Parent” and I guarantee you, it’s worth every penny. Do it before May 10th to get the discount!

  • You can receive $15 off your order total now through May 10th by using promo code, SPRING.
  • Families registering 2 siblings living in the same household earn $25 off per child, 3 or more children earn $50 off all season long!
