5 Homeschool Curriculum Options to Choose From

by Dannelle

Homeschooling your kids can be a very daunting task. You have to choose a curriculum, pick up supplies, lesson plan and more. It’s quite easy to get lost while doing everything. When it comes to choosing a curriculum, there are literally hundreds that you can choose from. Each one offers different styles of learning and different topics. Some are religiously based, others not so much. These 5 homeschool curriculums to choose from are usually considered homeschool favorites. Take a look and do your research to see which one is the best fit for your family.

5 Homeschool Curriculum Options to Choose From

Abeka – Abeka is known as one of the best homeschool curriculums by far. They are very heavy on religion though so keep that in mind. Abeka usually starts their kids at age 2. One thing about the Abeka homeschool curriculum is that it is very drill based. You can choose homeschool with no guidance or their guided dvd program.

Easy Peasy Homeschool – If you’re looking for a curriculum that is completely laid out and already planned for you, check out Easy Peasy Homeschool (also known as All in One). It’s totally free to use, but does have a very strong religious aspect. It will walk your kids through everything that they need to do each day, complete with tasks and games to help them learn.

K-12 – If you’re looking for something without a religious backing, check out K-12. All of your students work will be done on the computer, your kids will have access to actual teachers and more. With K-12 it’s important to remember that they are associated with public schools somewhat.

Accelerated Christian Education – As the name implies, ACE is a Christian homeschool program, but it’s a really decent one. Kids work through individual books, called PACE’s at their own pace. (Get it?) ACE relies on the kids setting their on daily goals and completing them which is great for kids that don’t need monitoring, but might not work well for kids that do.

Piece it together – If you absolutely can’t find a curriculum that works well for you, make one. The best thing about homeschooling is that you are free to teach your kids however you choose. If you absolutely can’t find a curriculum that is already built, use the thousands of free resources, sites like education.com and more to build one that fits your family and your child.

When you’re first starting out on your homeschool journey, don’t be afraid of choosing the wrong curriculum. You can always switch later if you need to. Do you research, figure out how your child learns best and you’ll be fine. These 5 aren’t the end all be all for curriculum options either. A quick Google search will bring up many others that you can look into as well.
